The scallop season opens on the Wednesday 1st September through to 31st March 2011, I am sure the taste of fresh scallops will entice a few to get wet. Roll on summer, all I can say is I am glad to be one of the lucky ones on the Samoan Trip.

Celebrating Goat Island

Steve Hathaway, President of Kawau Bay Spearfishing Club and achieving excellent results as an Underwater Videoographer. Steve is working on a TV production on Goat Island - Celebrating the history and future of Goat Island as one of the most popular and accessible dive sites in New Zealand. Many New Zealanders and overseas visitors have experienced diving and snorkelling for their first time at Goat Island. Steve often works with Orca Scientist Dr Ingrid Visser, and was lucky enough to be involved with the recent visit of Jean Michel Cousteau.

Steve would love to hear from anybody that may be able to help him with the Goat Island production, he is especially looking for Video footage and photos of pre-reserve days at Goat Island. Video is proving very hard to track down, but he would love to find any underwater and/or topside footage in pre-reserve days at Goat Island. Photos of great interest would be something like one of the fishing or spearfishing contests that used to be held there, with people holding up fish etc...

Steve has a wealth of information on underwater video equipment, and is an excellent guest speaker.

If you can help Steve please email him on stevehathaway(at)xtra.co.nz or phone 09 425 5455
